HIV/AIDS Research Companies 

UC San Diego AIDS Research Institute

Founded in 1996 by the Regents of the University of California, the goal of the UC San Diego AIDS Research Institute has been to "coordinate the diverse AIDS research and clinical activities on the UCSD campus" (5.10). They often assist local researchers in developing new approaches to HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention, as well as raise funds for the expenses that federal funding does not cover.

This company is a global BioPharma company devoted to inventing and designing medicines for people with serious diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, hepatitis B and hepatitis C, as well as HIV/AIDS. Bristol-Myers Squibb incorporates the "resouces of a major pharma company with the entrepreneurial spirit and agility of a successful biotech company" to cater to many patients in need of medicine and treatment (5.11).

AIDS Research Alliance

The AIDS Research Alliance is focused on making HIV/AIDS treatable, curable, and mostly, preventable. This independent research organization has researched for several drugs, as well as helping them get approved. Currently, they are working on finding a cure for HIV, as well as a vaccine to immunize people from the virus.

amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research

The American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR) was created in 1985 and hopes to end the "AIDS epidemic through innovative research" (5.13). The foundation has funded research for better understanding of HIV/AIDS, as well as pioneering research for antiretroviral drugs. They have since invested more than $388 million in their programs and more than 3,300 grants for research teams. In their most recent high profile New York Gala, they raised more than $2 million for their research programs.
